Microsoft Student Associate Program (2014)

“How Microsoft has impacted my life and how I plan to bring a change to the society being a Microsoft Student Associate”

ImageMy name is Abhishek Thakur and I am applying for Microsoft Student Associate India program 2014. I am an Engineering student major in Mechanical Department from Desh Bhagat Engineering College. Now why would I like to be MSA? Since my childhood I have been passionate about latest development in field of IT. The first computer I’ve ever used and first thing appeared infront of my eyes was always MS Windows. As a kid I enjoyed playing games on the PC. My first MS office tool was MS paint. By the time I was 11 or so, MS power point became my favorite. It has changed not only just my life but every person’s life on this earth because the perfect combination for a computer to work is Microsoft. There has always been emotional bonding with Microsoft. I have never known any operating system for computer and never came across the perfect sync of software with systems. As time changes rapidly Microsoft also adopted the change in time and developed more and more as per the demands and requirement of user.

Best features of my favourite windows 8.1

ImageIt’s always a good thing when companies listen to customer feedback, and that’s exactly what Microsoft has done with Windows 8.1. With this new operating system update, you can now boot right to the desktop and go split-screen with Modern-style apps for better multitasking. There’s also a new Start button, which brings back some of the functionality Windows 7 users missed.

Windows 8.1 also offers a ton of customization options, from more tile size options to the ability to make your Start Screen and Live Tile backgrounds match. Add in a souped up Search charm and there’s a lot that Windows 8.1 does better. Here’s how to get started with Windows 8.1 and take advantage of everything this new and improved OS has to offer.

Some other Products of Microsoft that help me in all situations..          Image

  • Skype
  • MS Office
  • Visual Studio
  • Xbox
  • Microsoft Security Essentials
  • Encarta

Being a Microsoft Student Associative

Being MSA I can reach that certain height which cannot be achieved by ordinary person. I have certain qualities which can qualify for MSA program 2014.

  1. Passion for technology
  2. Quick to learn
  3. Work actively on Internet for mocrosoft
  4. Volunteering For Mozilla Firefox and acting as Firefox Student Ambassador

ImageI want to bring around change in my society being a Microsoft Student Associate (MSA) by creating awareness about computers their usage in the current era to my people and the future of the country as most of the Indians are not acquainted with computers. Most of the youngsters in India don’t even have the basic knowledge of computers and also about the products of Microsoft. I want to teach them how to use Mocrosoft products and also how to enroll with Microsoft programe and get all the benefits provided by Microsoft for the students in India.

Update firefox on Linux

Updating Firefox in Windows OS is quite easy, you can find out all ways on Mozilla Support page https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/update-firefox-latest-version
But to update Firefox on Linux environment above mentioned ways doesn’t work.

Update Firefox on Ubuntu OS :
Just two commands on the terminal are enough –
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install firefox

Update Firefox on Other OS :
All OS which supports yum need following commands –
# yum update
# yum update firefox

Moz Connection at Desh Bhagat University

Today 2nd march 2013 is one of the most important day of my life because world’s best internet and secure browser company MOZILLA FIREFOX is coming to our college for describing about open source company its advantages and also to recruit 25 contributors for Mozilla from all over the Punjab and I feel great to be a part of this event. More than 300 students from different colleges of Punjab attended the event which was conducted by Er. Mohit kakkar and Er. Ashish Jalota

As the clock strikes 10 the program started with the introduction of Mozilla and also with some important tips and tricks about Mozilla. Many tech geeks took part in this event to be open source contributor for Mozilla. The officials from Mozilla (Anup Mishra & Ajay singhi) presented some slides about the company and also showed the video of flicks winner who is also mozillian. The officials from Mozilla introduced about web maker tools such as popcorn maker, thimble and x-ray goggles and also gave a live demo about them.

After sometime they organized a small objective test for all the attendee for the process of recruitment. After the test every person present there were waiting for the result of the test. Before the result of result they organized tricky quizzes and awarded the person giving correct answer. The most precious moment of my life started as I was selected in the test and I was asked to be ready for the interview. Before me many other people were called for the interview, some of them were selected and some of them were kept in waiting list. Now the turn was mine and I was selected by the interviewer. All the selected person were asked to select their area of interest, some of them selected web developing, education, coding, graphics design, marketing, etc. I selected marketing as my area of interest and was working as a Mozilla Punjab Facebook Fan page as moderator sharing features and answering the queries related to Mozilla firefox. Beyond this I was involved in making videos on Popcorn Maker about the life of Mozilla Student Ambassador. At last certificate of participation was provided to all the participants. It was fun as well as I got chance to learn a lot about Mozilla and open source.

Community building in Punjab

I’ve been associated with +Mozilla Firefox  from last six months and I was assisted to make a video about Mozilla student ambassador, but I never got chance to meet Mozilla reps. So today is greatest day as I am attending the meeting with reps of Mozilla (SUJITH REDDY from Hyderabad & Komal Gandhi from Bhopal) organized by the active volunteer of Mozilla Er. MOHIT KAKKAR & SAJEEV SONI. This meeting was full of interesting facts about the web maker tools of Mozilla and also about the community building in Punjab as according to Mozilla reps there are negligible number of reps from Punjab. The reps of Mozilla had travelled all over Punjab just to make community in Punjab and also to put Punjab in the map of Mozilla reps. They showed us the slide about community building and also video about the summit which was held in October 2013. Following topics were discussed in the meeting:

  • ·         What do I want to do for Mozilla?

 https://abhinepal99.wordpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/2ac35-img-20131209-wa0002.jpg

  • ·         Community building in punjab

  • ·         Roles of volunteer

The meeting was interesting and entertaining. The reps of Mozilla sang song in their native language and had lunch together with all the member of Mozilla. At the end of meeting all of the member of Mozilla cut a cake for the birthday of Mozilla in Punjab.

Army of Awesome, Support Mozilla Firefox by helping twitter users

Mozilla provides many ways to contribute into their support team, which is called SuMo, and one of them is AoA – Army of Awesome. In Army of Awesome, contributors respond to twitter users. Whenever anyone tweet anything related to firefox, it is filtered and displayed on AoA page where contributors can reply to these tweets.

How do I start with Army of Awesome:

  • 2. You will see there “Save the world (from the comfort of your couch)”, click on the button below it saying “Get involved – Help other users”
  • 3. Now go to section “Pick a way to get involved” and click on “Army of Awesome: help users on Twitter”. Other ways to contribute to SuMo are Answer questions in the support forum, Write help articles, Translate help to your languages.
  • 4. Now you will see Army of Awesome page saying “Love Firefox and have a few moments to help? Help other Firefox users on Twitter. Good things will come to those who tweet! “
  • 5. Just log into your twitter account to reply the tweets.
  • 6. Replying is also very easy, either you can also use pre-defined replies or reply with personalized message(recommended).

If you are not a frequent twitter user, and you start it only for AoA, then twitter may suspend your account for violation of their rules. To make sure your account is not suspended, follow the tips

  • Along with replying on AoA page, open your twitter account and tweet something frequently.
  • It will be better if the tweets you are posting from twitter have variety, like personal tweets (without links or hashtags), images etc.
  • Click on @Connect, next to Home button link on top bar, which will take you to https://twitter.com/i/connect, here you will see if you have got any reply back from users whom you have replied from AoA page. If needed, reply them back for anything needed.
  • On AoA page, try to use personalized replies instead of provided replies. Provided replies contains few links, and if you will send same set of links to people then twitter will think its some spam.

To keep quality in AoA, make sure that you are not posting duplicate replies on any tweet. Keep refreshing the page (manually or by clicking on “Refresh” button near ‘Sign Out’ button on the top), if someone else has already replied, try to avoid spamming that users account.
If you have any other queries, kindly comment below. Thanks for reading the article

Review about “IT STARTED WITH FRIEND REQUEST”

A shortread,It was the typical name and the bookcover which made me buy this buk..A day to day love story btwn Akash and Aleesha, the typical college couples u see everywer around u.and the same frnds u see in your clg to support them. .good to read to pass tym..and wat i liked the most are the heart touching love quotes in the buk..bt i prefer ‘i too had a love story’ the most touching in the genre..

The high point in the book, according to me, is the concept of friendship that is portrayed. Yes, this is a love story, but still not just a love story. The narration, simple and flowing, helps put both friendship and love (true love) into perspective. What lets it down at places is language. And that the prologue that leads to the flashback doesn’t end in the epilogue. I haven’t read Sudeep’s earlier work, but I would pick it up sometime. I’m not a die-hard fan for the genre, so for me, this story is a one-time read and one that I’d try while traveling.

i loved the character of Akash n Aleesha … The way they met and Akash was mesmeris at first sight . His heart had fond its mate … The way Bbm played an imp role in their story .. i loved the way Akash proposes Aleesha … Aditya and Kritika were most imp , sweet and cute friends .They were always great support … I was shocked with sudden twist in story realizing that this could also happen .. Tammy was fully possessed , her love was just lust.. Her overworking n no friends in her life lead her to this end …

Well yet another love story but with a little bit of twist. Quick read as I finished it in 3 hours that too with some disturbances or else am sure would have completed faster.

Somethings that I loved:

Characters – clearly defined and well relatable
Love-poems – very well written (Ok I am die hard romantic – cannot help noticing that!!!)
Cover page – Beautiful

Somethings I did not like –

Immaturity of the characters at few places
Love makings scenes – seemed a bit of overdose at places
Insecurity in love- acceptable from the girl as she seems to be in that age, just got into college and stuff. But from the guy who is working and is supposedly excellent at work – No.
I found some portions to be so so types while some were too good. It begins with a suspense and moves into romance, plunging into tragedy and finally bringing back romance.

This ride is enjoyable, though jittery at few places.

“It Started with a Friend Request!” The moment I completed this very book, I was like, “Gosh! Such books do exist!” All through the story I was practically falling in love with Aleesha, thinking about every thing that was happening. I can’t believe it, but I recently read this book for the second time, and trust me, I have now become a fan of the author!! While running my eyes through the pages, I was shocked to find out the way this author had written. And I was like, “Ohmigosh! He has a way with the words!” The way he expressed the texts between Akash and Aleesha, and that proposal, like I can’t believe it. It was all so..great. I just loved it. And in the end, when I saw what Tammanna did, my reaction was just like, “This man knows a lot”. Because after all, wasn’t it what obsessed girls always end up feeling, what they think? Moreover, I found the book so amazing, that I even recommended to a few friends of mine.

Short Stories: Uff Ye Emotions 2-Book Review

‘Uff Ye Imotions 2’ has 11 short stories, each one equally interesting. The stories are written by different writers, including Vinit K Bansal, Kunal Marathe and others.

The opening story, “The Client”, written by Vinit K Bansal portrays a girl’s experience and opinions on trusting men. Once cheated, she isn’t sure if she should trust the second guy. Read the story to understand how it feels when one was betrayed for life earlier and how faces an option which looks like a better life but could end up being even worse. (From frying pan to fire…)

The second story, “Moksha” is pictured around a loving husband’s act against his wife. Some decisions in life are never easy to take, because there’s trouble if you do, there’s more pain if you don’t. This story is written by Kunal Marathe.

3rd story, “When Destiny strikes” is about being able to spot your best buddy, even after decades of separation and among a huge crowd. Written  by Mahi Singla, this story can make us recall our own childhood friends and memories.

4th story, “The woman who waited” is another catch 20 situation. What is the right time and right way to tell the truth to your loved ones? Is it easier to tell the truth and hurt everyone badly, or hold the truth, appear as villain and hope it causes less pain? What is easier for the other person to overcome? Bitter truth or false betrayal? Read this story to find out. It is written by Shalini Katyal.

The next one, “The pale pigeon” is a story many senior citizens may feel their own. Sidhartha Yadav takes us through the experience of a senior couple, who did everything possible for their son. Were they taken good care of? Were their decisions right?

6th one, Hickey, by Heema Shirvaikar, is about domestic violence. The story is told from a young girl’s perspective, who observes things no one wants to accept or explain. Why do many women chose to stay mum despite physical torture? Is there a way out? What can be done if you happen to be a spectator to such brutality? Must read story.

7th one, NCERT of love, uses real names of its authors (Himanshu Chabra and Udita Pal) for lead characters. It is about a roof top incident going out of control. Read for some interesting exchanges of love letters. FYI- NCERT is the publisher of textbooks for most of CBSE schools.

8th one, “I’ll be there” is written by Ishani Malhotra. You go out on a vacation to a remote place, hoping to escape from all the worries in life and the supposed to be solo and calm vacation ends up being a romantic escapade, not knowing real identities of each other. Will it end in a disaster or ends on happy note?

9th story in “Uff Yeh Emotions 2” is again about the dilemma of having to take tough decisions- supporting someone vs supporting self. What will you do in such situation? Whom will you sacrifice?

10th one, 120 minutes, explains the struggle author had to go through to reach home in Germany during a severe adverse weather (not clear if it was cyclone or something else)

11th one, last but not the least, titled “Love and Sacrifices” is a love story between an Indian girl and Scottish man, having to face life and death situation, exactly as depicted in many of the Bollywood movies. Read for movie like visualization and narration of the close encounters, chase sequence and escape.(One question still remains-There was no passport control before boarding the ship?)

Book Review: Uff Ye Emotions, anthology edited by Vinit K Bansal

About the editor:
Vinit K Bansal is the author of the book “I am heartless: A real confession” which is already among the bestseller charts in India. That book has already been translated to Hindi and released as “Who Chali Gayi”. He is a voracious reader, and continues to nurture the dream of writing.
The book in a nutshell:
“Uff ye Emotions” (meaning Oh! These Emotions) is an anthology of twelve love stories written by thirteen authors. It is the culmination of the contest in the same name held by the publication house and selected by the editor from many other entries vying to get into the collection.
The book brings out the different hues of emotions associated with love… adoration, affection, friendship, lust, desire etc. It blends into a time in the Indian writing scene when love stories are becoming the most sought genre.
uff_ye_emotions_anthologyDelving into the stories:
When the book has stories from different authors, a summary of the positives and negatives might not give an overall picture. Since the number of stories in the book is less, I give you my thoughts on each story quickly.
#1: Love @ Platform by Vinit Bansal: Quite frankly, I like the idea. Sacrifice and understanding are quite essential in love, and the story revolves around that. But I’ll be damned if I understand why the story ended the way it did. The gal sacrifices a lot for the guy she loves; she gets him a sponsorship for his biggest materialistic dream; that’s all peachy, but why not stay in his life? Or tell him she’s sure he’ll make it big and that she’ll wait for him? Sacrificing the relationship for the betterment of the guy felt odd to me. It’s an emotional scene, but at that point, it felt like I was being bribed to get the tears out rather than let the emotions spill it.
#2: Soulmate by Anjit Sharma: I found it creepy. Very “One Night @ Call Center”ish beginning, and a tad unbelievable, even for a fiction. I’m no relationship expert, but at late night hours, in a bus stand, I don’t think any gal would just jump into a conversation with a guy she’s never met before. Perhaps the twist that comes out later in the story was meant to justify that, but it felt odd to me. The reports of Zara’s rape brings the recent events of Nirbhaya and Delhi back to mind, and it does make it sad.
#3: A Date with the Fate by Abhilash Ruhela: I like this story a tad more than the previous two, mostly because of the flashback that is inserted into it. It got a change to the pattern, which felt refreshing. I’m assuming the title was meant to be “A Date with Fate” rather than what it is, and it got changed along with umpteen other reading errors I picked up in the story. Maybe even “A Date with Destiny” would sound better. The thing I don’t quite like in the story is there are some details that don’t quite matter to the destiny of the plot, like getting ready for the first day “gettogether” party and such. Overall, it’s a good attempt.
#4: Reminiscences by Priyanka Dey: It felt strangely familiar. Again, the sacrifice part comes out, but in this case, the sacrifice on the part of the heroine is quite needed for the guy to progress, move on. But once again, I’m not quite happy with how it ended. Like the first story, it felt like the ending twist was just for pushing the tears out, than getting the emotions to take over. It was abrupt, and from this authoress, I expected something more than that.
#5: A Path of Thorns by Suresh: One of the best in the book, in my opinion. The title grabs the attention of the reader, and justifies itself with the story. The reluctance of the heroine to delve deeper because of her past, the frustration of the hero, the flashback and the resolution, were all quite well done. If anything holds it back, I think the abrupt, on the spot dialogue of the characters at one time might have been better put.
#6: Love in the Times of Turbulence by Saurabh Arya: Good that people need support when they are just inches away from giving up on a dream, and that the person who loves them understands that. The story was slow to develop, but the ending once again undid the story.
#7: Love Undefined by Pankaj Mittal & Rachna Sheth: The simple, yet moving love story of a couple. I liked the direct dialogue that still showed the love and affection between the couple. The change factor came out all of a sudden. One moment all is fine, the next moment… BOOM. A bomb comes into the picture and their love is tested. The different definition of love afterward was a nice change to see though.
#8: Happily ever after by Sanhita Baruah: This was the second story in the anthology that held my attention throughout. The twist in the middle seemed to make sense, and I could anticipate it to a certain extent as well. The ending seemed a little hurried perhaps, but nothing that holds it back. To me, the best in the collection.
#9: The Intercity Express by Stephen Anthony: A good story, but it didn’t hold my attention. It felt more about the job of the protagonist than love. The dialogues at times were confusing.
#10: I love you too, I love you too by Himanshu Chhabra: A sweet love story, with some poems as well. The author writes a story from college, and he’s a student too. So it was expected. I’d have liked the girl to let the guy read the slam book, but like the author says, relationships don’t need tags.
#11: And then, I fell in love by Drishti Dasgupta: This was a nice story, one of the better ones in the book I feel. Nothing very detracting, except maybe for the Labradors part which was funny, but still… I think the ending was the right way to end not only the story, but also the book.
Closing thoughts:
Firstly, my congratulations to the cover designer Sunil Kaushik. I think this book has one of the nicest covers I’ve seen recently. Coming to the content, in an anthology, the stories must blend together in some way, yet be different too. I think they were mostly similar, in the aspect that quite a few of them had the protagonist on a train or a bus at one point in time. It makes me wonder if love can’t happen elsewhere you know? Why must it be so “vehicular”? Another thing that makes sort of sad is that some of the stories, the turning point, or the twist is so sudden. Yeah, life is sudden, but not THAT sudden. I like happy endings, but understand also that there are sad endings, but some in this book are incomplete endings. But what I found the most detracting throughout the book was the absence of editing, even in the contents page. I agree that a novel might have one or two mistakes in editing somewhehere, so many of them in each story of an anthology is to me a big no-no. The stories bring the sense of love and its emotions as promised, and there are 3 or 4 that make you smile as well. Overall, a decent read, but I expected much more than this.
